Planetary Gearbox Repair in Fontana

On any machine, the hardest reduction work falls to the planetary gearboxes — final drives, swing drives, track drives and wheel hubs — and their failures usually develop quietly in contaminated oil, right up to the day they stop turning altogether. Planetary gearboxes and final drives are rebuilt in-house at our Fontana shop, and the sun, planet and ring gears that are no longer sold get manufactured here.

Final drives and planetary stages, rebuilt under our roof

Drive motors for track loaders are a specialty of this shop, and the planetary stages inside them are core work: carrier pins and planet bearings get renewed, gear teeth are inspected and measured, and housings are checked for the kind of wear that lets a stage tear itself apart. When a gear set turns out to be obsolete, our gear manufacturing capability cuts a fresh set to the original geometry — the repair that converts a 'replace the whole drive' quote into a rebuild.

A failure caught early is a failure you can still save

The oil tells you what shape a planetary stage is in: metal glitter, a burnt smell, or backlash you can feel at the sprocket all mean the wear is already well advanced — yet a stage caught at that point is still a rebuild, whereas one run to destruction takes its housing down with it. Metal showing in your final drive oil should be treated as a reason to call for an inspection, not as a minor detail. Regular hours are Monday–Friday 6 AM–5 PM, and the rush line answers 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Questions customers ask us

Is a final drive with metal in its oil still rebuildable?

Usually it is — metal in the oil points to worn gearing or bearings, and a stage caught before housing damage has occurred rebuilds well. Measuring everything at teardown tells us exactly where yours stands.

Are planetary gears manufactured here?

Yes. For obsolete drives, sun, planet and ring gears are cut in our own shop, working from measurements taken off the original parts.
